When Tim and Dessi told me they were getting married at South Eden Plantation in Thomasville, Georgia, I already knew their engagement session was going to be something special. What I didn't fully expect was just how stunning every single corner of that property would be.
We spent the evening at South Eden before heading into downtown Thomasville, and by the end of the night I was already counting down to their February 2027 wedding.
South Eden Plantation: A Location That Does Half the Work
If you've never been to South Eden, let me paint the picture. Live oak trees draped in Spanish moss line the property and create this canopy that feels like you've stepped back in time. It's historical, it's lush, and it photographs beautifully in every direction you point a camera.
The venue has a Cinderella-style metal carriage on the grounds that is an absolute showstopper for photos. We used it and it delivered exactly what you'd imagine -- romantic, timeless, a little bit fairytale. They also have brick archways, string lights wrapped through the trees, and architectural details that give you something interesting to work with no matter where you are on the property.
Tim and Dessi fit South Eden perfectly. They were relaxed and completely themselves -- no stiffness, no overthinking. Just two people genuinely happy to be there together, and it showed in every frame.
Downtown Thomasville: A Whole Different Look
After the plantation we moved into downtown Thomasville, and the contrast was perfect. Where South Eden is lush and historical, downtown gives you brick sidewalks, open sky, and that charming small-city character that photographs so well.
Tim and Dessi had a specific vision for downtown -- they wanted photos with the old clock post on the sidewalk, which is such a Thomasville landmark. We also worked in a gorgeous fountain and a cute brick staircase that gave us a little elevation and movement to play with.
And then Dessi came up with one of my favorite ideas of the whole session. She asked if she could lay down on a bench and look up at Tim. I didn't hesitate -- absolutely. That's exactly the kind of thing I love when couples bring their own ideas. It was effortless and genuine and the photos from that moment are some of my favorites from the entire evening.
That's the thing about engagement sessions -- I always have a plan, but the best moments usually come from the couple themselves.
Why Thomasville is Worth the Drive
Thomasville, Georgia is one of those locations that photographers dream about. The combination of South Eden's plantation grounds and the walkable, charming downtown means you get two completely different settings in one session. For couples getting married at South Eden, doing your engagement session there also means you arrive on your wedding day already comfortable with the space -- you know the light, you know the layout, and you've already made memories there together.
Tim and Dessi are getting married at South Eden in February 2027 and I genuinely cannot wait. This engagement session was just a preview of what that day is going to look like.
