The Outfit Question Everyone Asks
It's one of the first things couples stress about after booking their session. And honestly, it doesn't have to be complicated. A few simple guidelines will take you from overwhelmed to confident before you ever step in front of my camera.
Start With Color
Avoid anything too matchy. You don't need to wear the exact same color, but you do want to coordinate. Think of it like a palette rather than a uniform. Neutrals like white, cream, sage, and dusty blue work beautifully outdoors. Pastels photograph especially well in natural light. Avoid neon colors or busy patterns that pull attention away from your faces.
Dress for Your Location
A flowy sundress makes perfect sense at Eden Gardens or on a Florida beach. It might feel out of place at a rustic barn venue in Alabama. Think about the setting and let it guide you. If you're shooting somewhere lush and green, lean into soft, natural tones. If you're in an urban or industrial space, you can go a little more structured and polished.
The Fit Matters More Than the Label
You don't need a designer outfit. You need something that fits you well and makes you feel like yourself. Clothes that are too tight or too loose read on camera. If something doesn't feel comfortable when you put it on at home, it won't feel comfortable during your session either.
Consider a Second Look
If your session is long enough, a wardrobe change gives you two completely different feels in one gallery. I love when couples do this. Start with something a little more polished and change into something relaxed and casual for the second half. It gives you more variety and honestly makes the day more fun.
What to Avoid
Logos and graphics, overly wrinkled fabric, and anything you've never worn before are the big three. Don't debut a brand new pair of shoes at your engagement session. Wear what you know, just elevated a little.
